Collectible Keepsakes that Stand the Test of Time
Calendar Medals Date Back Three Centuries to 1684. The popularity of the calendar medal dates back to 1752 when England changed from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. Those first calendar medals were 1.5 inches in diameter and very practical because printing calendars on paper was a tedious and expensive process up until 1900. By using die struck metal calendars everyone always knew the correct date. The modern three inch calendar medal dates from the early 1930s when the Austrian Mint started issuing a series of calendar medals which continued through the 1950s. These issues were intended more as a display of medallic artwork rather than to be used as a functional calendar.
